Maduka University recently welcomed the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Mr. Kanayo Uzuegbu, as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security within the institution and its surrounding areas.
Receiving the CP and his team, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charles Ogbulogo, described the visit as timely, emphasizing the need for stronger collaboration between security agencies and the university, particularly along the Enugu-Ugwuogo-Opi Nsukka road.
“A key role of any university is to create an environment conducive to community development. This development thrives on strong relationships that extend from our immediate surroundings to the broader world," Ogbulogo said. "So, when we received word of the Police Commissioner’s visit, we were delighted. As an institution shaping the nation’s future, we recognize that security is crucial to achieving our mission.”
Highlighting the university’s rapid growth, Ogbulogo noted that Maduka University occupies nearly 1,000 hectares of land and is still expanding. “This institution is a self-sustaining community, complete with healthcare, markets, and natural water resources, including three lakes. We have built our own waterworks, energy supply, and road network. However, one key facility we still need is a police station,” he stated.
He further underscored the university’s commitment to self-sufficiency, which aligns with its motto: Knowledge, Service, and Self-Reliance. According to him, Maduka University is poised to be a model for reshaping Nigeria’s educational and developmental landscape.
In his remarks, the Chancellor of Maduka University, Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi, expressed gratitude to the Police Commissioner for his visit and for deploying officers along the highways leading to the university. He emphasized that establishing the institution was a personal mission to create lasting impact, adding that the Igbo community, Nigeria, and Africa would soon celebrate the university’s contributions.
Onyishi also appealed for increased security presence within the campus, stating, “We rely on you for security because you understand this terrain better than we do.”
In response, CP Uzuegbu commended the Chancellor’s vision in founding the university in Igboland, noting that its infrastructure was among the most impressive he had seen across Nigerian universities. “Such an institution requires robust security. As a result, we will immediately establish a police post on campus,” he assured.
The Police Commissioner was accompanied on the visit by top-ranking officers, including DCP Mercy Okoro, CSP Marcel Ogbuabor (Second-in-Command, 76 PMF, Nsukka), Emmanuel Ojo (Second-in-Command, CTU), and SP Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
